Graduate School Program Exhibitions (2021) by Team PhD
Project Summary.
This is a project designed for the students who are actively looking for graduate programs in the Computer Science field but don’t have enough time to look up everything by themselves. Our application offers the details of 21 graduate programs in 9 different universities around the country. You can search the programs based on location, tuition fee, application deadline, etc. You can also compare two different programs based on different categories. After selecting a specific graduate program, you can click and see the details about it. Besides the refined information listed in the app, there will also be a hyperlink to the official school website if you want first-hand detailed information.
End Product.
This project is about refining and visualizing the data from a number of computer science graduate programs from top universities in the US. We want to simplify the procedure of finding good graduate programs as traditionally it would take hours to look for information about a graduate program.
Our audiences are the students who are actively looking for a good computer science related graduate program.
Our app contains the information about different graduate programs with a clear structure, so that the user could access the data easily without searching different keywords on the internet. We also have all sorts of visualizations so that the data could be intuitive and easy to understand. A user could acquire a comprehensive feeling about a graduate program from the tuition fee, location, to program abstract.
Our app implements slide bars for users to select the most fitting graduate programs. We also offer a map for users to compare the locations of different programs directly. Instead of hours of searching, users only need a few simple clicks to find their favorite graduate programs with all-around information about them.
Our team had two main tasks: 1. collect the information and 2. build the app. For the first task, we largely underestimated the time to collect information about different graduate programs online, so we had to cut the numbers of graduate programs featured in our app. However, this also proves the potential of this app. Hours could be saved for a user to find information in our app. And for the second task, we spent a lot of time making the map more helpful to users.
Acknowledgments.
We would like to thank our professor Fernanda Eliott, and our Alumni mentor Davin Lin and the CSC324/326-Fall 2021 students that helped shape the origins of G-ArchiTech!
